Unholy Trinity Setting
Unholy Trinity; set in the area of Southern California and upper West region of Mexico. Three cities will be involved in our game, those being: Los Angeles, San Diego and Tijuana.
The Cities of Unholy Trinity; Los Angeles, San Diego and Tijuana; stand out in the World of Darkness. They are home to denizens of darkness. Some evil, some good and some beyond such concepts. These cities are much the same as their counter-parts in the real world, but seen through the darkest of looking glasses. Let us look back into the history of this territory...
Around the 1800s, before the European Contact occurred, it was a mystery as to who the first Vampires where that reigned in California. Evidence does show that Ventrue and Brujah might have established their residency first throughout California, while the Tzimisce and Lasombra moved into Tijuana. There are some old reports dating back to the 1800s, found from the original Kindred Settlers, that there had been at least one confirmed Cathayan sighting. It’s not unthinkable that the strange Easterners had followed their Asian mortals to the coast of California. As the population of Kindred grew, it was the Anarchs that took the majority of control throughout the state. Around the later 1800s, when the California Gold Rush occurred, more sizable amounts of vampires began to populate the area and state overall. The Gold Rush attracted Mortals, Kindred and Garou alike from around the world in 1849. Ample amounts of opportunities for Kindred spread as more and more mortals began to flock there. Kindred saw hard working and eager mortals that would make exceptional Ghouls. When California became a state in 1850 the Anarchs where gaining strength and enjoying their freedoms from elder control. The lifestyle and opportunities helped give them strength here during this time. Los Angeles remained an open-shop stronghold for half a century until unions from the north collaborated to make California a union state. This began the upheaval of opportunities that attracted the Camarilla to the region. The Garou found there opportunity as well. Offering a chance to settle down, work, gain money and supplies for their Sept.
As the Camarilla pushed into the territory, though the Anarchs weakest spot was their inability to organize, as a united group they would be strong enough to hold the Camarilla Court back from taking their piece. All the while, without the knowledge of those younger minds, the ancient intellect watched with a keen eye. The Anarchs stepped up with the mentality of “Fuck these stiff suits and stuff them. Beat them out of this city and take it over!” It didn’t take the Anarchs long at this point, to push the Camarila out of San Diego into Los Angeles.
L.A., the City of Angels, in the World of Darkness is a place of contrasts and diversity. By the early 1930s, the show-biz population had extended its reach into radio, and by mid-century Southern California had also become a major center of television production; hosting studios for major networks such as NBC and CBS. Mingled in with the high class society that are comprised of the famous with their glamour, glitz, and money, linger those that simply struggle to make ends meet by taking whatever actions necessary to just feed themselves. With such diversity and distraction among the mortals, the Kindred of the Ivory Tower appointed their Prince, establishing Los Angeles as a Camarilla city. The Toreador Prince found himself so wrapped up in the era that he seemed to care less what anyone else was doing unless feathers got too ruffled and he was forced to address it. This was ample opportunity, that appeased the Independents and Anarchs. They were able to roam free in the territory of a Prince who didn’t seem to care as long as they stayed out of his way.
Combining Los Angeles and San Diego with the Ivory Tower, Independents, Anarchy and Garou the struggles continued. In the streets where the cops are on the take, crime pays, and everyone and everything is for sale, the rule is to look out for number one and screw thy fellow man. It is a place ridden with friends who lie. Loyalty is fleeting and deception is the standard. You have to carve out a piece for yourself, harden your soul if you have one and squash anyone to make sure it happens. It is a dog eat dog world and you must get them before they get you. With the Sabbat still in Mexico just across the border little was known of there dealings coming up through the north. Finally the war broke out. The selected group that went under that same radar began to make their move and manipulated the Anarch revolt against the Ivory Tower. This was the move the Sabbat was looking for. They waited till both sides were weakening. Then made their move and attacked their way North.
The Anarchs didn’t have much muscle left and in a ditch effort they struck a deal with the overthrowing of the Prince, electing a new prince. The deal struck was set in blood at the time. Together battle the threat. The Sword from dredging out of Mexico and taking over all the Southern area of Cali. As soon as the Sabbat where beat and pushed back into there hole. Everyone pulled back. In the end now once again the Camarilla upheld laying their true territories in LA. The few Elder Anarchs that were left fell back to San Diego to regroup. The Anachs pulled back deciding to just be content in there corner of the state. The Camarilla would have eventually pushed them right out in the end. This way they wait, rebuild there troops and when the time comes they throw with the Cam once again. This time for the North, for all of LA. If they succeed, they will once again have half the state.
Now, In this time of the Southern Territory of California, the slums, barrios and other neighborhoods are poorer and more dilapidated. Homeless huddle in the cold around fires in back alleys or in the numerous vacant buildings. Gang tags and slogans of hate are the only thing to adorn the grimy and dilapidated buildings. Many buildings, even homes, have broken windows covered with boards or plastic sheeting. The streets glitter with broken glass while garbage chokes the alleys. The only money evident comes from the pimps and drug dealers who cruise the streets and alleys in supped up flashy rides. Neighbors live in a state of xenophobia, never speaking to each other, never making eye contact. Young toughs and gang bangers swagger on the streets, ready to pounce on anyone who shows the slightest sign of weakness. Blaring car stereos, screaming arguments and the occasional gunshot provide the soundtrack of the night.
In Unholy Trinity, all trace of beauty or humanity is stripped away from the business districts. Skyscrapers become brutal titans. Monolithic towers of black, featureless steel, stone, concrete or glass. At night, the streets are deserted except for homeless people huddled on grates or in alleys. High-powered attorneys and stockbrokers returning home congratulate themselves on a day well done, gloating over the lives, they have destroyed and the riches they have made, only to look over their shoulder during the walk home and wonder if the hand of God is poised to strike them for their cruelties. The industrial district is a barren wasteland of crumbling factories and warehouses. Most of the industries shut down long ago, leaving towering machines to rust and collapse onto poison-soaked dirt or asphalt. Now and then, one comes across relics of a more gracious past in the urban sprawl, or at least a past with more ornamental tastes. An old church might nestle in between grim office blocks, its stained glass and carved stone more astonishing by the contrast. Ethnic neighborhoods that once prided themselves on their cultural identity still leave behind remnants of glory days, though these too, tend to rumble in the grime and dust.
