OK, I’ve read through the setting information and this FAQ: how do I get started?

Once you’ve chosen your venue, take the time to read the appropriate FAQ for that venue – it will give you specific guidelines on creating a character.

After that, your first step is to write a background for your character – this is required. Once your background is written, put the character sheet into the database and then post the background and the character name to the ST on the forum.

What kind of concepts are acceptable for characters?

Most concepts are perfectly fine. The concepts we’re going to keep a tight rein on are those which are pointedly anti-social (this is a game about interacting with other people, after all, and most anti-social characters we’ve seen generally end up not being played due to player boredom), cyberbunnies or obvious killing machines.

Given that, here is a partial list of concepts which will probably raise our eyebrows: hookers, strippers, gangbangers, ex-cons, ex-military (please don’t create one of these unless you either already know a little about the military, or at least are willing to do a little research so that you can play one appropriately), bodyguards, security guards, martial artists/instructors, and policemen.

This doesn’t mean you can’t create a character with such concepts – it means your background had better be good, and you can expect that your sheet and your role-playing will come under greater scrutiny.

What can I name my character?

Please take some time to think about your character name.

Do not use names from books/magazines, television shows, movies, gaming supplements or famous historical figures (be they living or dead).

Do not put unusual characters, such as _, %, $, *, `` into your name. This can be read by the Digichat program as code.

Do not use numbers in your name.

Names should be in one of the following formats:

First Name “Nickname” Last Name
First Name (Nickname) Last Name
First Name Last Name “Nickname”
First Name Last Name (Nickname)

Obviously, if your character has no nickname, that part is simply omitted. Also if the name is long it may well not fit in the allotted space the system allows. If this happens you may put the name into the description.

Unholy Trinity requires that your character have a first and last name in the skin.

What can I do to make sure my character WON’T get sanctioned?

Want to make sure you waste your time and the ST’s time and create a character that won’t stand a chance in Hell of being sanctioned? Then just create a character without reading this FAQ thoroughly and the specific venue Creation Rules. Or create an obvious “twink” character or “cyberbunny” character that has no real personality or purpose other than killing or boinking. Any of these options are guaranteed to have your character tossed into the proverbial File 13, not to mention give you a bad reputation with the Storytellers.

What can I do to make sure my character WILL get sanctioned?

Unholy Trinity is set up to be an “established” game – Which means characters will not ALL be starting characters (as evidenced by the extra freebie points you might receive for character creation as well as our established NPCs within the game).

That said, you should create a three-dimensional, well-thought-out character. Make point distribution choices that make sense with the character concept (for example, an intellectual bookworm should not have a Strength of 4 and massive points in combat abilities with only a few points in Knowledges).

On Backgrounds...This background can be as easy as a couple of paragraphs if you're playing a "straight forward" character. However, if you wish to take restricted merits, flaws and backgrounds or out-of-clan disciplines at creation, you must justify this in your background.

Something of the character's mortal history must be included even if your character has amnesia from the embrace. She may not remember her mortal life, but the STs would like this information for the sake of possible personal scenes.

For Vampires. The embrace must be included and some information on the sire. The obvious exception would be Gangrel. Sure, other unique circumstances or situations can always be factored into the background, but the background needs to include, at least, basic information on the sire.

How long will it take to get sanctioned?

STs will make every effort to sanction new characters within one week of their creation. You are responsible for posting the Character name in the Character thread of the venue you are submitting to play in.

Why is the Storyteller making changes to my sheet?

For a variety of reasons, the ST may feel that changes need to be made to your character before he or she can be sanctioned. The ST will, in all likelihood, ask you some questions about your character and your answers may elicit changes in your character’s sheet.
