Warning Procedure
Though we hope it never comes into play, we feel it’s important to have procedures in place to deal with the issue of warnings and potentially punishing those players who do not adhere to Name of Chat’ published policies, to include the Terms of Service and the Code of Conduct. We strongly urge you to read all of our published chat policies so that you will know what is expected of you.
The storytellers in this game reserve the right to take the following
corrective actions with players:
• Verbal and Account noted Warnings go auto to the below. Accounts are noted with a Strike and which corrective action. Three Strike Policy automatic removal of player from game.
• Written Assignments [In form of Bluebookings]
• Docking of XP, or XP Debt
• Character Suspension from Game [Loss of Icon]
• Character Removal from Game AKA GNC [Generate New Character]
• Player Suspension from Game
• Player Ban from Game
• Other Actions as decided by Staff
Players are in general expected to be honorable, honest, trustworthy, fair, helpful and friendly towards other players and UT staff. Players who fail to live up to these expectations will be subject to the above corrective actions, or other actions as the HAdm/HST deems reasonable. Some possible actions which may require corrective actions by the UT ST staff are:
• Cheating. Cheating is defined as the misrepresentation of character statistics in such a way as it effects game, (lying about traits, ignoring a flaw, lying about a negative trait that has been bid against you etc.)
• Metagaming. Metagaming is defined as the use of OOC knowledge about the game for IC gain, either for yourself or others, (such as using OOC knowledge about a clan infiltrator to be suspicious of a character, or discussing your character's reactions to a hypothetical approach for business deal. Or discussing OOC set ups for IC gain). Please note, helping out new players, or acting based on OOC UT staff directions doesn't count as metagaming.
• Lying to Staff. Lying to Staff is deliberate misrepresentation of game related events or communications to UT staff.
• Arguing with the STs will result in that player being removed from the game. ... The World of Darkness is not a happy place. From time to time, ... During a scene minimize rules questions, and ask only those questions that are absolutely necessary, preferably short and sweet. If an ST asks you to refrain from PMs do so immediately. No ST ruling will be reversed by another ST. Persons who repeatedly argue with STs will be suspended or banned from the game.
• Bashing of the chat, Staff Member or another player. There is a difference between bashing and constructive criticism. Bashing, as an example, is when you log on the chat and say "God that Storyteller is such an incompetent idiot, what a fucking moron, he can't rub two grey cells together!" Constructive Criticism, as an example, is when you log onto the chat and say "I disagree with the ruling this storyteller made. I don’t feel that it was a just or proper judgment call, and my opinion is that it should have gone like this." You are entitled to your opinion; no one has the right to take that from you. Now to be adult about it, I believe we have made our point clear
In general, when undertaking an action that you feel may be unethical or may cause you to be subjected to corrective action, ask one of the ST staff. Also, IC deception and cheating or other unethical are perfectly acceptable, though they may be subject to IC consequences. It's always alright to help out new characters however.
No characters die without permission of the ST's and/or of the one to die. However, this is a chat that allows character death, as in-character actions carry in-character consequences. If no ST is present, I prefer no deaths at all. Pause or freeze the scene till an ST is present to moderate. There will be stories where deaths are inevitable, it happens. That being said, don’t get your character into a situation where you know death is possible then get upset when your character dies. This is the World of Darkness, death happens.
What do I do if I disagree with a player?
Scene-Freezing Procedure
In-Character (IC) conflicts: Always attempt to resolve your own conflicts, especially if the disagreement is simply a difference of opinion and does not have anything to do with the actual game rules and regs. Remember that IC conflicts are just that: IC conflicts. Please do not take IC antagonism OOC; this is a game and as such, it is here to be enjoyed, not to stress over or get upset about. If you have a problem with this, then perhaps role-playing is not for you.
If you are unable to resolve the issue, then ask that the current scene be frozen until such time as an ST can address the situation. If any character in a scene asks for the scene to be frozen, do not argue or try to convince them to continue.
Leave the scene immediately, and send an FPM with the following to the appropriate ST:
The date/time the scene occurred
The exact room name
The characters involved in the scene
A summary of the conflict, with screenshots
Screenshots of the dice rolls, if you think it’s needed
If an ST is on the chat at the time the conflict occurs, you may PM them and ask for assistance. Whenever possible, the ST will attempt to help you. If for some reason he or she is unable to do so, do not badger. The ST will officially freeze the scene (placing the special “locked” icon in place of the characters’ normal icons) and will then either make arrangements to resolve the scene or will tell you to get in touch with the appropriate ST.
In all cases of disagreements between players, the ST will take the time to hear all sides of the disagreement before making a ruling. Bear in mind – lying is a very bad idea. We do have access to room logs and in the case of a player conflict, we will in all likelihood check said logs.
Out-of-Character (OOC) conflicts: As stated before, we are not babysitters – OOC conflicts should be resolved by the players involved. Please attempt to deal with issues on your own first. If someone has said something that you find offensive, tell them politely and ask them to stop – do not get into an argument with them. On the other side – if you say something that someone finds offensive and they ask you nicely to stop, just stop. You don’t have to agree that it’s offensive – just stop. If you then feel the player was being out-of-line, you are welcome to take it up with the Admin. If the behavior continues, that is the time to take the next step. If you feel that a particular player is harassing you or if there is inappropriate hate language involved in OOC rooms, the Admins and STs want you to come to them and tell them there is a problem. Be prepared to provide the following information:
The name of the problem player
The date/time said harassment occurred
The room name where said harassment occurred
Any witnesses that were present
Screenshots of the offensive behavior
A screenshot that demonstrates you politely asked said player to desist
The Admin will assess the situation and will then take the appropriate steps. Please let him/her do there job. It is the Admin’s decision as to what kind of punishment, if any, will be meted out to the offending player.
We have a point system in place for reprimands. Warnings and strikes. Admin of UT are zero tolerance for behavior short of common respect of others. Feel free to screen shot pms or rooms to document issues that arise.
What do I do if I disagree with a Storyteller?
There will always be times when players do not agree with STs. When this occurs, you need to assess the situation. If you are angry because your character is going to lose a fight or be unable to do something, please simply accept the scene and continue to role-play.
If it deals with a particular game rule, first make sure that it isn’t covered in the House Rules. If not, then you may at that point ask for the issue to be addressed. Present your disagreement civilly and without being rude or obnoxious; harassing an ST can get you desanctioned or banned from the site. In all cases – the ST has the final word. There will be times when STs bend particular rules for the benefit of the drama of the scene
or the scene may be playing out because there are things you as the player are unaware of and thus you may not have all the facts of the situation.
In any and all cases of dispute, the screen shot is your best friend – it is your only means of providing proof of your allegations. You will be expected to tell us the date and time the problem occurred – we’ve seen attempts at using a screen shot and giving a false date/time in an attempt to get someone in trouble. Please remember – we have logs and we will check them. Lying will backfire, and you may find yourself banned.
As for the rest of the rules, we're all adults, for gods sake act like it! That doesn't mean acting out your favorite porno in channel. However, this isn't church either. Its the World of Darkness, a game of personal horror, get some armor. ::smirk:: Expect swearing but don't go to excess; expect violence but don't think you can walk in and slap people around without getting slapped back...or worse. In general...act like adults, play nice in the sandbox and most importantly...have fun! This is a GAME! If at any point it stops being fun...stop playing. Take a break, take a walk, find someone and ravage them repeatedly and then come back.
With ALL that said ::Sly Grin::
Welcome to Unholy Trinity!
Happy Gaming!!!
We are all adults, or at least know how to act like ones. This game is for fun. People dedicate there time to work on making it fun and to play. Lets remember that and that there is a line between joking around fun and enjoying others and being outright disrespectful, rude and hurtful.
This is the staff of UT. Please respect these STs for there time and effort.
