Attractions in Tijuana

There are other things to do in Tijuana besides shop. Though Tijuana is most known for it’s shopping and nightlife there is much more. Some of the city’s other attractions include dog and horseracing, bullfighting, fishing, whale watching and great restaurants. Come and see the most important sites and tourist attractions we have! Here you will see where you can go to enjoy fine wines, artistic shows and entertainment. One treasure that most tourists never discover is the “Mercado Hidalgo,” located just five minutes from the border. It’s a true Mexican market where locals buy their own specialty items such as a large variety of chilies, spices, Mexican candies, grains and hand-carved Mexican cooking utensils.

Tijuana has an international airport, and a fine cultural center that presents music, dance and theater groups. Designed by the renowned Mexican architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Manuel Rosen Morrison, the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) was nearly instantly incorporated to the cities landscape, as it simultaneously became one of its landmarks. Situated in the heart of Tijuana most modern zone, due to the emblematic sphere like form of the Omnimax Theatre building, the CECUT is popularly known as La Bola (The Ball). Since 1992, the Tijuana Cultural Center houses the Baja California Orchestra (OBC), and since 1994 is the home of the North Eastern Center for the Performing Arts (CAEN) and the Spanish American Guitar Center (CHG).

Another location in the downtown area is Saint Cecilia Square or Arguello Square. It’s located on the oldest street of Tijuana. This is the only plaza on a transverse street from the original city grid. Today you may find stores and restaurants, as well as a Mariachi band at almost any hour of day or night.

How about some family fun, bring the kids and enjoy the Mundo Divertido La Mesa. Family fun center where you can enjoy miniature golf, a mini roller coaster, batting cages, video games, bumper boats, go karts and much, much more!

The Bull Fighting Arena (Toreo de Tijuana) is a major part of Tijuana's history, this old bull fight ring has seen many years of hero-making and excited patrons. The beautiful history & architecture of the two Tijuana bullrings is like no other in the world. The first and the oldest bullring in the city is named El Toreo de Tijuana or in English The Tijuana Bullring.
It is located along the oldest road of the city, Agua Caliente and located as a strategic point for the city. It was first built during the early 1930s as a symbol of Tijuana's growing tourism during the American Prohibition era. It held its first bullfight on July 3rd, 1938. The structure was made entirely of wood. In 1957, the bullring was rebuilt completely and the wood was replaced by steel. The ring has a capacity of approximately 14,000 spectators. The bullring bought a sense of pride to Tijuana.

Bullfighting rings in Mexico are special. Mexicans like a lot of action. The sport of bullfighting is very popular. Most of the large cities in Mexico have bullfighting rings. Mexico City has the largest bullfighting ring in the world - the Monumental Plaza Mexico. It holds up to 60,000 people. Nowhere is this clash of sensibilities sharper than along the US-Mexico border, where a string of bullfighting rings in Mexico from Tijuana to Ciudad Jurez has long drawn international crowds. The construction of the Toroe de Tijannua was conceived by visionary industrialist Neguib Simón who opened the ring on February 5, 1946, filling it to capacity. You’ll admire the beautiful, monumental architectural design of this structure which is actually very comfortable. The engineer C. Roland was responsible for this great building’s construction. It was blessed by the Archbishop of Mexico, Dr. Luis Maria Martinez. SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL shows are performed by novices – these shows are quite incredible and challenging because these novices make many mistakes along the way as they work hard to become professional, famous matadors. WINTER is the prime season – during this time, you’ll find only the most famous matadors in all of Mexico and around the world.

At night, the ring becomes a pit of Darkness, only lit by the light of the moon and torches. This is were the Sabbat settle the disputes. The guards are on the Bishops pay roll. The Right of Monacracy is held at the Ring at night, and all Rulings and victories or loses are final. Anyone who breaks the trust of the ring, or breaks the rules of the Monacracy, there life is forfeit and they are no longer worthy of the Sword
